Cascade Charter Township sits in the southeast corner of Kent County, about 10 miles southeast of Grand Rapids. It is recognized because the cozy Thornapple River divides the township into east and west halves.

Cascade Charter Township was originally a part of Ada Township, but separated in 1848. Cascade grew quickly, with the first general store and post office established in 1854, followed by St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Cascade Flour Mill in 1856. By 1876, there were 1200 people living in Cascade. In 1890, the Township Hall was built, and it is still used today for board meetings in the township museum.  

Today, I-96 and M-6 cut through Cascade the Township, and the Gerald R. Ford International Airport lies 2400 acres within the township boundaries.  

There’s a plethora of things to do in Cascade, too! Join one of the many fitness facilities, run one of the local races, relax at a day spa, hang out on the Thornapple River in a boat or go kayaking, enjoy dinner and a movie, visit the Grand Rapids Brewing Company or Schmohz Brewing, play golf at Quail Ridge Golf Club or Watermark Country Club or Thornapple Pointe, catch a show at the Forest Hills Fine Arts Center, take the kids to Bounce Party, make the short drive downtown Grand Rapids to the John Ball Park Zoo, or head over to Cannonsburg to ski during the winter.

There are approximately 27,800 people living in the Cascade, Michigan area with a growth rate of 9.7% since 2000. The majority of the population is adults between the ages of 35 and 54 years of age, and about 77% of the population has at least a two-year degree from a postsecondary school. The median household income is close to $65,000 a year, with most of the township’s adults working in the manufacturing, education, and health care and social assistance professions. The average commute is less than 30 minutes. Estimated home value is $204,000.
